With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, you may be wracking your brain for the perfect gift to give the number one man in your life. Men are pretty easy to please, but they can be tricky to buy gifts for, especially on the most romantic day of the year. But let’s be honest, they aren’t really into the traditional, mushy Valentine’s Day gifts (unless that gift involves food or ahem, you know 😉). I think we can all agree that this holiday is mostly catered to us ladies. We’re usually the ones on the receiving end of all the sappy gifts and romance.
But, how about we kick away tradition this year and spoil our men?
Even though my hubby is perfectly happy with having my undivided attention or receiving his favorite candy (Skittles), a six pack of beer, and his favorite home cooked meal (eggplant parmigiana), I feel that after 17 years of celebrating V-day together, we must continue to include elements of fun and surprise in our marriage so we can beat those marital blahs.
It’s easy to get carried away with the fantasy and commercialism of Valentine’s Day. Personally, I think this day should be filled with simple ways to show our love and affection, rather than some over-the-top gift or elaborate gesture. Besides, after the gift giving season has ended, most of us are all shopped out or still crying over December’s credit card statement.
There’s no better way to woo your fella on Valentine’s Day than with a personalized DIY gift or with a few sweet romantic gestures. Pinterest has a plethora of adorable Valentine’s Day ideas. So, this year, why not skip the store-bought chocolates and conversation hearts and create something so lovable and unique that you’ll have your guy dropping L-bombs all over the place. 😍
I’ve scoured the Net for some of the best ways to seize the opportunity and show your sweetie just how much you care without sacrificing your budget this V-day (with the exception of one item on my list). Of course, some of these ideas require a little creativity, effort, and imagination, but that just adds to the excitement.

52 Things I Love About You
Forget the sappy Hallmark Valentine’s Day card and make your own. Nothing says, “I love you” like a personalized, hand-made card, or even a whole deck of cards with 52 things that you love about him. In case you forgot, there are 52 weeks in a year, so every week he’ll have a sweet reminder of just how much you adore him. This gift is priceless!
Leave Love Notes All Over The House
Profess your love for your man by writing down all the things you love about him on sticky notes and place them where he’ll see ’em. Definitely get carried away with this one – create a sticky note heart on the wall, write on the bathroom mirror with lipstick, leave random notes in every room of the house and even in his car.
“You Knock My Socks Off!”
I know what you’re thinking… really, socks? Well, this is a perfectly acceptable DIY option if you really have no clue know what to buy him. And besides, can a man ever have too many socks? This doesn’t have to be the only thing you give him – combine this gift with something (like cologne) or something else from my list.
Pamper Him With A Massage
Studies show that a massage aids the release of oxytocin – the feel-good or ‘love’ hormone. So, why not surprise and indulge your man in a little soul-nourishing delight this Valentine’s Day? This one doesn’t have to cost a thing! Check out this site for some sexy massage tips.
A Manly Gift Basket
OK, this is the one that I mentioned would be a little more costly. But it’s too good not to share! Spoil your hubby with a gift that is filled entirely with things he loves. Only you know what he likes. Think of a theme (sports, tools, fishing, golf, etc.) and fill up a basket with all of his favorite things. There are endless possibilities to make this gift super thoughtful and personal. Again, check out my go-to place, Pinterest, for a little inspiration.
Breakfast In Bed
Food is always a yes! Breakfast in bed is a classic romantic gesture that will start his special day off right. Whip up some heart shaped pancakes or some fried eggs on toast. If you like to get creative, spell out the word L-O-V-E with various food items.
Sweets In A Jar
Does your man have a sweet tooth? (Mine does). This cute and inexpensive Valentine’s gift is super easy! Just fill a Mason jar with some of his favorite candy, add a sweet little tag like the ones below, and you’re done!
A Romantic Scavenger Hunt
As a sexy Valentine’s Day gift, lead your man on a mini scavenger hunt either around the house or out on the town. Write out clues to the next location, give him riddles, or leave questions only he would know the answer to. You can bring back old memories — and make some new ones. The “treasure” can be whatever your little heart desires. Just the thought that you have put into this one will make it extra special. Here’s one to get you started!
Home Cooked Meal
The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, remember? Nothing will make your hubby swoon more than a delicious Valentine’s meal that you have prepared from scratch. Avoid the madness of other couples this year by staying in and have a romantic meal for two – picnic style. Go out of your way to make something that you know he would love. Nothing sets the mood like candlelight and some soft music! End your special night with a romantic movie. I think you know what happens next…
These are just a few of the affordable and thoughtful DIY ways you can lavishly spoil your main squeeze this year. At the end of the day, he will just be so grateful to spend a romantic evening alone with you. Remember, it’s the little things that can spark up the love and help you beat those marital blahs.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Lovebirds! Love and be loved.
